Violet May Cunliffe (July 16, 1920-April 14, 2017)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Violet May Cunliffe at the age of 96 in Kamloops, BC. Violet (Vi) was born on July 16, 1920 in Merritt, BC to Evan and Susan Thomas (both of Welsh descent). She moved with her parents to Princeton the following year and spent most of her life there. She was predeceased by her first husband (Theo ‘Slim’ Lewis) at the end of WWII, and her second husband Harry Cunliffe (also a war veteran) in 1977. Violet was the eldest child in her family of origin, and was predeceased by all of her five siblings. She had a long and fulfilling life, and was known for her excellent cooking, her creative gardening, and her brisk walking style. She took pride in her work career, first at BC Tel and then at the doctors’ office in Princeton. She was a strong and capable woman, always willing to see possibility and hope, rather than despair. In the last few years of her life, she spoke of gratitude: “I’ve had a very good life”. She leaves behind her two children Bruce Cunliffe (LaVerne) and Maureen Drage (Harry), her five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Yvonne Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. While she enjoyed her home at Berwick on the Park in Kamloops, her heart was always in Princeton. She will be missed forever by those who knew and loved her, and will always be remembered for her energy, her resilience, and her love of family.
