KAMLOOPS — While the skiing will depend on snowfall amounts, Harper Mountain is looking to get operations back up and running for the season this weekend.

The hill is still assessing whether it can have ski and snowboard runs available, but General Manager Norm Daburger says opening weekend will at least have the tube park open for Saturday (Dec. 14) and Sunday (Dec. 15).

“Skiing is day-to-day so we’re just going to put it on hold. We’ve got a good, solid base, we just need some icing on the top and the forecast looks a little more promising than it has so hopefully any day now.”

Given the weather patterns the area has seen in the past, Daburger says you never know what’s normal for opening weekend.

“I know that it’s not abnormal. We’ve had later starts,” he notes, “Like last year for example, we were in a very similar position — we started a little bit later but ended up having a fantastic, long year.”

Regardless, tubing will be open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm this weekend.
