Lance Bas open up about Lou Pearlman

Dec 13, 2019 | 7:47 AM

Lance Bass is still coming to terms with the drama he and *NSYNC experienced with their former manager and record producer, the late Lou Pearlman.

Pearlman, who also managed the Backstreet Boys and O-Town, scammed the groups out of millions, and in 2008 plead guilty to charges involving conspiracy and money laundering.

Now in an upcoming interview with ABC’s 20/20, Bass opens up about the Ponzi scheme Pearlman ran and how it affected Bass and the rest of the members of *NSYNC.

He also recalls the day he learned of Pearlman’s death in 2016, revealing, “When I heard that Lou Pearlman had passed away, I was so confused on exactly how to feel. I was like, ‘How could you die right now when we don’t have this closure? You need to apologize! Like, there are so many people who are waiting for you to realize what you did. And it pissed me off that he passed away.”

Bass says he spotted red flags early on that signaled Pearlman was up to no good. The singer claims to remember band members receiving a $10,000 check instead of what they expected: a $1 million check.

The full interview, part of The Hitman From Pop to Prison special on 20/20 airs Friday (December 13th) at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
