KAMLOOPS — Canada’s National Impaired Driving Day was this past Saturday, and Kamloops RCMP was out in full force to conduct road checks.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says officers held four road blocks that evening.

“They checked 850 vehicles and were able to issue nine immediate roadside suspensions, and one roadside suspension for drugs,” Shelkie says.

Shelkie says drivers were cooperative during the stops. The CounterAttack program will run throughout the rest of the month — especially on weekends.

“There’s lots of different ways to make it home safely, and we just ask that people make a plan before they go out, and that’s to have a designated driver, taking a taxi, using public transportation, or using Operation Red Nose,” Shelkie says.
