Blazers lose in a shootout to Portland

KAMLOOPS —The two highest-scoring teams in the Western Conference could only combine on two goals in regulation time and one in a shootout, in the Portland Winterhawks 2-1 win over the Kamloops Blazers.

Portland took a 1-0 lead in the first when Kade Nolan’s point shot from just inside the line beat Dylan Garand.

The Blazers tied it late in the second when Connor Zary finished off on a two on one pass from Brodi Stuart while on the penalty kill.

It was Zary’s 18th goal of the season, and his third shorthanded.

With no scoring in the rest of regulation time and overtime, it went to a shootout, where there was only one goal, by Seth Jarvis to give Portland the 2-1 win.

The Blazers and Winterhawks will meet again Saturday night at the Sandman Centre in the annual teddy bear game.

That will be the Blazers’ final home game before Christmas, and ahead of a six-game Eastern Conference road trip.
