Kamloops’s Out of the Cold program needs community help to find new home

KAMLOOPS — The Out of the Cold program in Kamloops is asking for the community to help out in finding a new location for its shelter.

Executive director for the program, Lena Cimmarrusti, says Out of the Cold expected to have its new home a couple of weeks ago, but so far things haven’t panned out.

“We have a couple of options that, obviously at this point, we were hoping to have already heard about, so if they don’t happen, if they fall through, we’re going to need somewhere else to go,” Cimmarrusti says. “So if anyone has anything that we can use, I would love to hear from them.”

Cimmarrusti is asking any organization in the community to put its name forward if they have usable space for the Out of the Cold program — especially now that a cold snap has made its way to the city.

The program’s former home, St. Paul’s Cathedral, is too busy to host the program this year.

“The people that have contacted me, we’ve already had people wanting to give us donations and people wanting to volunteer,” Cimmarrusti says. “Everyone’s eager to get started here, Kamloops has been very supportive, so we really want to be able to help out those people that have nowhere to go this winter.”

If you know a space that could host the Out of the Cold program, you can call Cimmarrusti at (250) 299-6699 or email her at ootckamloops@gmail.com.
