WHY IAN MCKELLEN STAYED IN THE CLOSET: Ian McKellen has entranced audiences for decades, but in his private life, the 80-year-old was a different person. In a new biography by Gary O’Connor, Ian McKellen: A Biography, which drops today (Tuesday), the author delves into McKellen’s past, including his time at Cambridge University. “Cambridge was great for me…all the many parts I had played there, as I loved for the first time going out in public and displaying my emotions,” McKellen continues, according to the biography. “I enjoyed disguising myself as a closeted gay boy.” He was, per O’Connor’s book, in the closet until 1988, when he shared his homosexuality in a radio broadcast in the U.K.

JOHNNY DEPP SETTLES $350K COURT CASE: Johnny Depp has one less legal issue to wrangle. He has settled a $350,000 court battle with his former lawyers, The Blast reports. According to court docs, Depp was sued by his former lawyers at Buckley LLP for an unpaid bill. Depp hired Buckley to represent him a $30 million suit against his former entertainment lawyers, Bloom Hergott.
