Third person dies following downtown Kamloops hit and run earlier this month

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: Coast Hotels has confirmed all three people who died after the November 3 crash in downtown Kamloops worked at the Coast Sundance Lodge in Sun Peaks.

In a statement, Coast Director of Marketing and Communications Jodi Westbury says Daniel Okocha, Feyisola (David) Adebowale and Oluwatosin (Kelvin) Adeojo were ambassadors at the Sun Peaks hotel.

“We are working to come to terms with this tragic news, and to liaise with the families of the deceased ambassadors,” says Westbury.

General Manager James Bingham says staff at the Coast Sundance Lodge “are a tight-knit group” and goes on to say the loss of the three staffers is like losing “loved ones and that news is very difficult to grasp.”

EARLIER: A third person has died after a hit and run in downtown Kamloops earlier this month.

In the early morning of Nov. 3, Kamloops RCMP were called to a serious crash at the intersection of Battle Street and 1st Avenue.

Police said a truck was speeding, ran a stop sign, and hit a car that was travelling on 1st Avenue.

Four people were in the car, and now three have died. Feyisola Adebowale and Daniel Okocha died on scene, and Oluwatosin Adeojo has now passed away.

“We would like to thank the media and the public for assisting us in identifying a witness who was on 1st Avenue that night. The police have since spoken with this individual. We are now looking for an unidentified female who assisted in first aid at the scene,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says. “This woman was described as wearing a long white coat with black geometric designs on it. If you provided first aid at this scene and have not yet spoke with police, please contact the Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000.”

Once all witnesses have been spoken to and all forensic evidence has been processed, Shelkie says police will then be able to forward all information to the BC Prosecution Service who will determine what, if any, charges are applicable.

The fourth person was injured but the injuries were less serious.
