KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops man wants to warn the public after witnessing a unique telephone scam.

Gary Miller says he received a call earlier this week that started out with a recorded voice claiming he was facing prosecution for a serious crime.

When a human voice came on the line, Miller says the caller told him an abandoned car with a large amount of blood inside was found in Winnipeg. The caller said the car also contained Miller’s social insurance number (SIN) and evidence that he had millions of dollars stored in dozens of different bank accounts.

The caller also told Miller the RCMP had been surveilling him for several days, and said he required Miller’s permission to change his SIN so he could avoid prosecution.
