Kate Middleton and Prince William had a terrifying incident Thursday during their royal tour of Pakistan. After a full day of events in Lahore, the pair were set to travel back to Islamabad on a jet when an electrical storm hit.

At one point, lightning could be seen over the right wing of the plane as it got jostled about in the wind, according to reports. Despite the efforts of the RAF Voyager’s pilot to land at two airports, the plane had to turn back. A flight that was set to take 25 minutes ended up taking 2 hours.

“Those big flashes are the RAF Voyager, carrying William, Kate and traveling media, going through [lightning] – two aborted landings at Islamabad due to the storm and we’re back in Lahore,” tweeted Press Association reporter Emma Louise Bowden.

After landing, William joked to reporters that he was doing the flying. A RAF spokesman told reporters: “On background, can confirm Royal flight turned around.
