Kamloops RCMP asking for donations for the Food Bank on Saturday

KAMLOOPS — Local RCMP will be out in the community this weekend, helping raise funds and taking food donations to support the Kamloops Food Bank.

RCMP will be set up outside of the Real Canadian Superstore Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says people can pick up non-perishable food items while they’re shopping or drop off cash donations.

“This is something we do a few times a year and we call it Cram the Cruiser,” Shelkie explains. “We’ll have police cars here, and we ask people as they’re purchasing items to pick up a few extra items for the Food Bank, or if they wish, to donate cash.”

Shelkie says while the event is an excellent opportunity to help out a worthy cause, it’s also a great chance for RCMP members to connect with citizens out and about in the community.

“They stop, and they talk to us, whether or not they donate to the Food Bank,” Shelkie told CFJC Today. “We really enjoy talking to people in the community… It’s a great feeling all around, for the people to see the officers are part of their community, and we’re just happy to be there and talk to the people that we serve.”
