WolfPack basketball and volleyball ramp up the pre-season ahead of Canada West season

KAMLOOPS —- TRU WolfPack women’s basketball and women’s and men’s volleyball will both play pre season games this weekend.

Basketball will play its first game under new head coach Goran Nogic.

The 47-year old native of Serbia brings a wealth of international and university experience to the Wolfpack.

He makes his debut with the teams first pre-season game this weekend at the coast against the UBC Thunderbirds.

“These first games will be some challenge.” says Coach Nogic. “One thing is the routine of the practice and the other thing is the (?) of the game.”

Women’s volleyball will hit the court for the first time in the pre-season with three games at the Tournament Capital Centre.

Against MacEwan on Friday morning, UBC Friday at 5pm and UBCO Saturday morning.

Head coach Chad Grimm returns the entire team that made the Canada West playoffs last spring.

“In our case, where everyone returns, we’ve added two new pieces.” says Grimm. “So it’s just trying to see where everyone fits, and who has made some growth and what lineups we might be able to look at. Injuries come up, things happen, and kind of see what kind of diversity we have in the lineup.”

Men’s volleyball will be on the road for another busy schedule of pre-seaon games in Vancouver and Langley against Canada West opponents.

Unlike the veteran laden women’s team, the men are a younger group.

“They’re eager.” says assistant coach Drew Venables. “There’s a lot of work to be done. There’s high potential, which is just kind of a nice way of saying there’s a lot of work to do. So in terms of the coaches it’s exciting to know that there are young guys with high potential — but they are quite unpolished at this point in time.”
