KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops is mourning the loss of one of their own, after a mountain goat was fatally struck by lightning on Tuesday (Sept. 3).

In a Facebook post, the park stated that the “tragedy has left the entire BC Wildlife Park team in shock and disbelief.”

The goat, named Gustav, came to the park as an orphan in 2018. Gustav, or “Gus”, was bottle fed in the BC Wildlife Park’s rehabilitation centre until he was strong enough. Eventually, Gus was moved into the Mountain Goat habitat with the park’s two other mountain goats- Cloud and Gerrard.

The BC Wildlife Park says it is “grateful to have had the opportunity to give Gustav a second chance at life, and he will be forever missed.”
