Large outage affecting 3,400 Hydro customers in Sun Peaks, North Thompson

SUN PEAKS, B.C. — UPDATE: Power has been restored to the North Thompson.

The cause for both outages was birds contacting the wires, according to BC Hydro.

There is not yet an estimated time on for Sun Peaks.

EARLIER: More than 3,400 BC Hydro customers are without power in the Sun Peaks and North Thompson areas this morning.

According to BC Hydro, power has been off to both areas since just after 8:30 a.m.

The cause is under investigation, and a crew has been assigned.

The Sun Peaks outage reaches from Old Highway 5 and Tod Mountain Road east to the Sun Peaks village.

The North Thompson outage begins at the Yellowhead Highway and Halston Avenue area, and goes north past McLure.
