KAMLOOPS — Three comedians walk into a brewpub… It’s not the set-up for a joke; it’s the start of the Kamloops Comedy Festival, which begins tonight with a pair of shows, including a sold-out showcase at the Noble Pig.

It’s quite a list of comedians who’ll be showing off their best material at the third annual Kamloops Comedy Festival this weekend.

“We’ve programmed a heck of a festival if I’m honest,” organizer and performer Lars Callieou explains. “I’m proud of the lineups, and the shows are at really cool places like the Paramount Theatre and the Noble Pig and the casino, so it’s exciting.”

Three of the performers who’ve come to town for the festival were at the Noble Pig this afternoon, preparing for their shows tonight. Terry North and Callieou will be performing a sold-out show at the Noble Pig while Australian all-star Chris Franklin will be playing Cascades Casino in the late show.

Callieou joined the festival when founder and longtime friend Leeland Klassen asked for a hand organizing. He says it was a natural choice for him to sign on with the event.

“It sounds like I’m flattering you, but one of the reasons I signed on was that Kamloops is a hidden gem,” Callieou says. “To bring international acts and Canadians who might not have been – we have a couple of comedians from Toronto who have never been out to Kamloops — I think they’re going to be surprised.”

If you’re looking for a good laugh, the festival starts tonight and runs until Sunday. You can get tickets at www.KamloopsKomedyFestival.com.
