No evidence uncovered to suggest link between multiple missing person investigations: RCMP

KAMLOOPS — RCMP say they have no found any evidence to suggest recent missing person incidents around Spences Bridge, and the lower Nicola area are connected.

Yesterday (Aug. 2), police had executed a search warrant at a business in Spences Bridge. RCMP say it’s believed it was the destination 38-year-old Ryan Provencher and 37-year-old Richard Scurr were headed to when they went missing.

RCMP say the two men from Surrey haven’t been seen since July 17, however their white Jeep Cherokee was discovered parked in a wooded area near Logan Lake just a few days later.

As with many missing person cases, theories and speculation begin to make the rounds as similarities become apparent. Now in particular, as this is not the first missing persons incident around the Spences Bridge area.

Luke Neville was last seen in the area on October 9, 2017. RCMP say the disappearance was considered to be suspicious, as his vehicle was found torched along an area forest service road shortly after.

Neville still has not been found.

The proximity of the two Spences Bridge incidents is also within about 60 kilometres of the area where the search for Ben Tyner was conducted.

Tyner was reported missing on Jan. 28 of this year, when his rider-less horse was discovered on a logging road off Highway 97 near Winnie Flats. Initially, police said they had no information suggesting Tyner’s disappearance was suspicious, but the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit was brought in to assist with the investigation, and it has since been treated as such.

Cpl. Elenore Sturko of Surrey RCMP says while the incidents all stem from relatively close areas, and foul play has been considered, so far there is nothing to suggest they are linked.

“I’ve been asked if there is any link to two open missing persons investigations in a similar area,” She says, “Although our officers always look to see if there’s relationship or linkages to any other ongoing investigations, they have not uncovered any information at this point that would suggest that this missing persons investigation is linked to any other missing persons investigations in the area at this time.”
