Behind the Scenes Buzz
BET ORDERS TYER PERRY SERIES: BET Networks has ordered another Tyler Perry series; this one is titles Sistas, and is the second under his multi-year content deal with Viacom. ROSANNA ARQUETTE SPEAK ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT: Rosanna Arquette, Jessica Barth, Caitlin Dulany, Pamela Guest, Sarah Anne Mass and Sarah Scott are criticizing Gabrielle Carteris for her handling of sexual harassment issues at SAG-AFTRA. Carteris is being challenged as president of the actor’s guild by Matthew Modine, who is also running. Arquette says of Carteris’ response to her accusations against Harvey Weinstein: “I told her I wanted to put together a committee to deal with sexual harassment issues so that it might not ever happen again. Gabby was kind and very receptive. Or, so I thought. The very women who came forward to painfully revisit their experiences were shut out of these ‘confidential committee’ meetings. Why? Carteris was the one who would sign off on all members on the Task Force. Why wasn’t I included? I was told by one of Ms. Carteris’ supporters on Twitter that I was asked to come onboard – it was a complete and utter lie.” Election ballots were mailed July 29 to dues-current members and will be tabulated on Aug. 28. SAG-AFTRA represents about 160,000 performers.
13 REASONS WHY ORDERS FOURTH SEASON: Netflix has given 13 Reasons Why the greenlight for a fourth season. The third season will launch August 23rd. The news comes after the megastreamer decided to edit out a scene of suicide in the first season, which many said was triggering. The fourth and final season will feature the core cast’s graduation. Brian Yorkey serves as creator, showrunner, and executive producer of season three alongside Mandy Teefey, Kristel Laiblin, Selena Gomez and Joy Gorman.
GREEN EGGS CREATOR ON SHOW: There are 50 words in Dr. Seuss‘ Green Eggs and Ham, so turning it into a 13-episode 30-minute animated show isn’t easy. Jared Stern says during a TCA session at Warner Bros: “It helps to have talented people. They took something very simple and used the essence of it to make it magical. That was my intent [with Green Eggs and Ham] – it’s about trying new things and never judging a book by its cover.” Stern is producing the series with Ellen DeGeneres. The voice case includes Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton and Tracy Morgan.
