KFR urges caution after rescuing hiker with broken bones from Peterson Creek falls

KAMLOOPS — After rescuing an injured hiker from the Peterson Creek falls over the weekend, Kamloops Fire Rescue is urging hikers to take caution during the summer.

KFR Platoon Capt. Wade Lindoff says crews responded to the falls shortly after 3:00 p.m. Sunday (July 29).

“They were originally dispatched for a hiker that had fallen with broken limbs, so they hiked in, they reached the patient,” Lindoff says. “They dressed and stabilized the injuries and transported the patient out to the BC Ambulance. So they loaded them for transport to the hospital.”

Lindoff says Peterson Creek is one of the most frequent response areas for rope rescues.

He urges hikers to be aware of how steep the terrain is, and that the hike up is usually easier than the trip down.

“When hiking and climbing and enjoying the outdoors, just be cognizant of the fact that you can get yourself into predicaments,” he says. “It’s always easy to climb up but when it comes time to climb down it may prove more difficult than people realize, so at that point we do get a lot of calls to assist and in some cases it can be like yesterday where a climber actually had a fall and did have significant injuries.”
