Ride to Reach sets out on fundraising ride to combat youth homelessness

KAMLOOPS — A group of motorcycle riders from Kamloops, and Kelowna are on their way from Valemount to Jasper today.

It’s part of the ‘Ride to Reach’ fundraiser- where bikers solicit donations from friends and family for a chosen non-profit organization.

This year, the organizers of ‘Ride to Reach’ chose A Way Home Kamloops. The relatively new non-profit helps homeless youth get off the street.

Every year, the group chooses a different charity from Kamloops or Kelowna, raising money along the ride.

Organizer Tim Kasten from Kamloops says, A Way Home is deserving of the support.

“We’re really excited to be partnering with Katherine and A Way Home this year. We want to work with organizations who work with youth or children, so that’s kind of why we decided here for this year’s ride.”

The goal is to raise $50,000 for the organization. As of today (July 27), A Way Home Kamloops Executive Director Katherine McParland says the riders have gathered over $30,000.

“We’re at $31,193,” She says, “We started at $28,990 so it’s gone up a bit, but haven’t achieved our goal of $50,000 yet.”

While yesterday’s weather was ideal, McParland says with today’s wetter weather forecast, the ride should prove interesting. After going through Jasper, she says the group will head to Golden.
