KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says the construction project on West Victoria Street is on time with some sections ahead of schedule and some behind where they’re supposed to be.

The city’s capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says the paving on stage one of the project below BCLC will be finished on Tuesday. The paving of all of West Victoria is expected to be done in October.

“Yeah, we’re pretty hopeful,” said Crundwell. “Definitely all the deep utility work will be done. All the BC Hydro work for their duct bank, that’ll all be done by the fall. We’re hoping we’ll have both lifts of asphalt done by the end of the year as well.”

Beyond the fall, the city will be working with BC Hydro and Fortis BC to connect businesses to the underground power.

“What the public will see, mostly the businesses, though, throughout the winter, we will be transitioning over the third-party utilities. Right now, they’re currently overhead. Once we have them underground, then we’ll be able to re-connect the businesses to their underground services.”

Crundwell says that will leave mainly landscaping work that will be done in the spring.
