Early morning crash near Falkland kills driver of pickup truck

FALKLAND, B.C. — One man is dead after an early morning crash near Falkland.

RCMP E-Division Traffic Services spokesman Cpl. Mike Halskov says the crash happened at about 5:35 a.m. off Highway 97 near the Whispering Pines frontage road.

Halskov says an eastbound black pickup truck went off the road at that spot. A man in his 60s, the lone occupant of the truck, was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Halskov notes investigators are trying to determine what caused the truck to leave the road, and dashcam footage might shed some light on the cause.

“Dashcam footage can be very valuable in determining the pre-collision sequence of events — and sometimes even records the actual crash itself. It can be a very valuable tool for investigators going forward,” said Halskov.

Anyone with dashcam footage on Highway 97 around that time — or any other helpful information — should call RCMP Traffic Services at its Vernon location, (250) 260-7132.
