KAMLOOPS — Caleb Kilba, a student at Rayleigh Elementary School, beat the odds and was lucky enough to name an RCMP puppy.

Each year the RCMP Police Dog Services Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta, have a “Name the Puppy” contest. To enter, children must be under the age of 14 and a Canadian citizen. This year the contest received a record-setting 34,714 entries from children in every province and territory.

Only 13 names were chosen and “Marlow”, Caleb’s entry, was one of them.

Kamloops RCMP Police Dog Services unit attended Rayleigh Elementary on June 25th to present Caleb with his prizes: an RCMP baseball cap, a plush dog named Justice and a photo of the puppy they named. (See attached photos)

RCMP police service dog teams are vital in frontline policing. Their jobs involve searching for missing or lost people, tracking and apprehending criminals, the removal of illicit drugs from the streets, detecting explosives, and searching for evidence used in crimes.
