KAMLOOPS — On Friday evening, the Kamloops Symphony Music School is hosting an amazing fundraising concert at Kamloops United Church.

The Student Showcase Concert is a fundraiser for the Peter Collins Memorial Fund. Collins was an instructor at the Kamloops Symphony Music School, as well as a talented tenor who sang with the Canadian Opera Company in Ontario. He lost his battle with cancer in 2015 at just 41 years of age.

“It really honors Peter because he was such a passionate teacher and was so generous with his students. He was always trying to give them a helping hand,” former KSO Executive Director Kathy Humphreys says. “It’s a great way to remember Pete.”

The fund in Collins’ name provides bursaries for youth in the TNRD who are hoping to further their education in music.

“It’s open to any student under 19 years of age and in the TNRD for their music studies. They don’t have to be particularly advanced students; they could be a complete beginner. It’s really to give people access to music lessons,” Humphreys says.

Humphreys says the student showcase will feature current students as well as alumni from the Symphony’s Music School. She’s hopeful the event helps bring in more money for the bursary fund,

Tickets for the Student Showcase Concert are available through Eventbrite, or you can purchase them at the door. The show kicks off at 7:30 pm on Friday, June 21 at the Kamloops United Church.
