KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP is hosting the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run on Saturday morning at McArthur Island. It’s a fundraiser for Special Olympics BC.

Local police, sheriffs and corrections officers will be taking part in the run along with local Special Olympians. The run begins at 10:00 a.m.

Organizers hope to raise $1,000 to support the athletes. The money helps fund the programs offered by the Special Olympics BC.

“It’s an amazing energy. I actually had the opportunity, when the BC Summer Games were in Kamloops, to help with the lighting of the torch, and it was such an amazing, positive experience,” said Const. Sophie Winkels, who’s organizing the torch run. “The whole Sandman Centre was full of athletes and everyone was dancing and cheering. It’s really like nothing else.”
