Sabiston Creek wildfire winding down

SAVONA — So far, so good for firefighting efforts on the Sabiston Creek wildfire near Savona.

Fire Information Officer Marla Catherall says the 200 hectare blaze is now under control and today (June 9), crews were not needed on site.

“Just with the progress that’s been made, its more of a monitoring basis right now,” She explains, “When it is classified as under control, it just means that the wildfire has received sufficient suppression efforts and we can ensure that there will be no further spread.”

Catherall says the BC Wildfire Service had 33 firefighters, and air support tackle the blaze Friday and into the weekend, and with the cooler, wetter weather, the wildfire was able to be held.
