KAMLOOPS — A wildfire south of Kamloops is under control, but a new blaze has the attention of B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) personnel Tuesday morning.

Fire Information Officer Taylor MacDonald says a fire that popped up near Stump Lake yesterday is under control at 1.6 hectares.

The fire is believed to be human-caused, and did not threaten any buildings. BCWS has three people cleaning up the site today.

Another fire has sparked between Chase and Sorrento.

Reported Monday, the fire near Squilax Mountain is less than a hectare but is still out of control as of Tuesday morning.

MacDonald says BCWS were working on the fire overnight, but it is in very steep terrain.

She notes the fire is also suspected to be caused by people, and will be visible from the Trans Canada Highway.
