Heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms in forecast for South Thompson

KAMLOOPS — We’re going to get some rain over the next two days.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the South Thompson, Nicola and Fraser Canyon. It advises an extended period of rainshowers will start tonight and continue into tomorrow.

There could be thunderstorms associated with it, and we could get 10-20 millimeters of rain through Friday afternoon. Rainshowers will continue into Saturday.

We’re expecting a 60 percent chance of showers in Kamloops itself this afternoon and a risk of a thunderstorm. Showers tonight, with up to 10 millimeters forecast. Showers tomorrow with another 10 millimeters possible.

Special weather statement in effect for:

• South Thompson

An extended period of rain showers with a risk of localised flash floods is expected beginning tonight.

A low pressure system will develop over the southwest interior tonight resulting in widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts will be variable across the region, with 10 to 20 mm expected through Friday afternoon. Any areas affected by thunderstorms could see locally higher amounts in excess of 30 mm.

These higher rainfall amounts, particularly if concentrated over the same area or over unstable slopes, may generate localised flash floods or landslides.

Rain showers will continue into Saturday, with additional rainfall amounts. Rain showers will become scattered late on Saturday as the low weakens.
