WILLIAMS LAKE β€” While attempting to apprehend a man with several warrants yesterday, Williams Lake RCMP wound up talking him down from a potentially harmful jump.

In a release today, Cst. Joel Kooger says officers had located a 30-year-old man with several unendorsed warrants yesterday and approached him.

The man then ran away and climbed on the roof of the Slumber Lodge, threatening to jump.

Cst. Kooger says the man appeared to be suffering from a drug withdrawal along with mental health issues, however officers were able to deescalate the situation and convince the man to safely come down off the roof.

β€œThe successful and safe outcome of the incident is a direct result of the effective communication of on-scene officers working in partnership with the Williams Lake Fire Department and BC Ambulance Services,” states Cst. Kooger in the release.

Once the man was off the roof, Kooger says there was a short pursuit on foot, but the man was eventually taken into RCMP custody without any further incident.

Williams Lake RCMP have no further information to release at this time.
