Motorcyclist dead after collision on Highway 1 in Shuswap

MALAKWA, B.C. — A 53-year-old Shuswap woman has died after a collision on Highway 1.

Yesterday (April 30), at roughly 3:40 p.m., Sicamous RCMP and emergency services received a report of a fatal collision on the highway near Cambie Solsqua Road in Malakwa.

After arriving, officials determined that an eastbound motorcycle crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a westbound transport truck, according to an RCMP news release.

The rider was a 53-year-old woman from the local area, and she died from her injuries. The truck driver was uninjured, and Highway 1 was closed for several hours while police investigated.

Trans Canada East Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the cause.
