More snow expected for Kamloops tonight

KAMLOOPS — Snow is expected to ring in the New Year in Kamloops this evening.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says Kamloops is in the midst of a bit of a cold stretch, and things are expected to warm up later this week.

“But before that happens, we’ll basically be seeing a frontal system come through central B.C. which will give some flurries to the Kamloops area tonight (Dec. 31) into tomorrow morning,” he says. “You can expect probably a couple of centimetres in some local areas but not a whole lot.”

There will still be a chance of flurries for the next few days, but Sekhon says those will likely turn into showers by Thursday.

Snow isn’t expected to make a major appearance around the Coquihalla Highway, Sekhon says, but the region will still get a few flurries this week, along with Rogers Pass.

Earlier this morning, temperatures in the city dropped down to -10 C, but Sekhon says that’s not far off from normal for this time of year.
