Avalanche danger on the rise in some areas this weekend
VANCOUVER — Avalanche Canada is warning of extreme danger in the mountains of B-C’s south coast, the Sea to Sky region and Alberta’s Jasper National Park.
The warning says that storms yesterday and today are expected to dump between 60 and 100 centimetres of fresh snow in those areas and may combine with expected heavy rain or wind to create dangerous conditions.
The agency says the conditions will likely cause widespread storm slab avalanches in the Alpine and treeline areas of the Sea to Sky and south coast, and the danger rating extends below the treeline in Jasper.
