Tourism efforts in Maine get a boost

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s tourism agency has awarded over $46,000 to efforts to bring new visitors to the state.
Recipients of the grants include Bates Dance Festival, which received $10,000 to encourage cultural tourism in the Lewiston and Auburn area. Other recipients include the William A. Farnsworth Library and Art Museum, which plans to use the funds to brand Rockland as a major art destination.
The Abbe Museum near Acadia National Park has received $10,000 to expand of the reach of the Abbe Museum Indian Market.
Meanwhile, Visit Freeport received $8,250 to promote the Maine Pumpkin Trail and encourage longer stays by visitors.
