EARLIER: Police in the region are investigating a fatality in Cache Creek overnight.

It’s not known what exactly happened or whether any arrests have been made.

The Ashcroft-Cache Creek Journal reported this morning that police were called to a home on Stage Road after an unconfirmed fatal shooting.

Cache Creek Mayor Santo Talarico says he has not been given any detailed information so far.

“We had a heavy police presence last evening for the most part. And that’s all the information that’s been passed on to us — very limited knowledge of what’s going on,” he says.

Talarico says word about the incident travelled quickly on social media, and all he has heard so far is that there was a possible homicide in the village.

“I’ve been part of the community since 1973 and I can’t recall during that time to the present that we’ve had a homicide in our community,” he says. “Anything that involves a potential homicide is certainly something that we don’t want to see in our community for sure.”
