WCT’s ‘Meet My Sister’ brings sibling rivalry to the stage

KAMLOOPS — Western Canada Theatre is preparing for the world premiere of ‘Meet My Sister’, a play by Canadian playwright Bonnie Green. 

The production follows two sisters with clashing personalities as they care for their aging mother. 

In their attempt to move her to a long-term care facility the sisters’ comedic sibling rivalry comes to a head. 

“Everybody’s got somebody who you have a sibling-like relationship with,” said director Sharon Bajer, “especially people who are very close and have a long history with each other there’s going to be … buttons that get pushed. Bonnie has written such a funny portrayal of the sisters based in such truth that I think everybody’s going to be able to relate to it in some way.”

Meet My Sister is the first Western Canada Theatre production for actress Sharon McFarlane, who plays Blanche, the high-strung primary care-giver for her mother. 

McFarlane says the sisters have a ‘bombastic’ relationship.

“They’re quite opposite, the sisters. Stella is my sister and she very kind of hippy-dippy, laid-back, is very esoteric and not practical at all,” McFarlane said. “Blanche is completely practical. So, it is a constant battle because of that. Underneath, of course they do love each other.”

Meet My Sister will be performed at Sagebrush Theatre from Jan. 24 to Feb. 2.
