Vogue with Justin and Hailey

Newlyweds Justin and Hailey Bieber share a sweet embrace on the cover of Vogue magazine’s March 2019 issue, on newsstands February 19th. Here’s what the 24-year-old entertainer and 22-year-old model had to share with the mag:

Hailey, on being a newlywed: “It’s just that I’m fighting to do this the right way, to build a healthy relationship. I want people to know that. We’re coming from a really genuine place. But we’re two young people who are learning as we go. I’m not going to sit here and lie and say it’s all a magical fantasy. It’s always going to be hard.”

Justin, on religion: “I wouldn’t consider myself religious, that confuses a lot of people because they’re like, well you go to church. I believe in the story of Jesus-that’s the simplicity of what I believe. But I don’t believe in all the religious elitism and pretentiousness… I get sensitive when religion comes up because it’s been so hurtful to a lot of people. I don’t want to be thought of as someone who stands for any of the injustice that religion has done and does do.”

Hailey, on their friendship blossoming at church: “One day Justin walked into Hillsong and was like, ‘Hey, you got older.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, what’s up?’ Over time he became my best guy friend. I was running around with him as his homie, but we weren’t hanging out [romantically].”

Justin, on his difficulty trusting people: “It’s been so hard for me to trust people, I’ve struggled with the feeling that people are using me or aren’t really there for me, and that writers are looking to get something out of me and then use it against me. One of the big things for me is trusting myself.”

Justin also revealed his the real reason he canceled the last part of his Purpose tour in 2017. “I got really depressed…I was lonely,” he says. He also said that he is taking a step back from his music, as he tries to find himself on this new stage of his life. “I’ve been successful since I was thirteen, so I didn’t really have a chance to find who I was apart from what I did,” Justin admits. “I just needed some time to evaluate myself: who I am, what I want out of my life, my relationships, who I want to be-stuff that when you’re so immersed in the music business you kind of lose sight of.”
