THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL IS HEADED TO MIAMI: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is ready for a beach vacation. ET chatted with the Amazon hit’s star Tony Shalhoub (he plays the father of Midge Maisel, who is played by Rachel Brosnahan) at the Writers Guild Awards Sunday, and the pair dropped a few tidbits about the upcoming third season. “I think I’ve heard that we’re going to Miami in June. That’s all I know,” Shalhoub said of the show, which is due to start filming its third season next month. “I don’t know what that [entails]. It’s about [Midge’s] tour, but that’s all I got.” But later, he said that he also thought his character may become more supportive of his daughter. “I think that maybe he’s starting to realize that this isn’t just a pipe dream and that maybe, in the eyes of the public, she’s got something,” Shalhoub said of Abe. “I’m not sure, but I think there’s a little bit of a thaw going on.”

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL LOOKS ABROAD: Alita: Battle Angel bested dismal box office expectations with $27 million over the weekend, but the Fox cyberpunk fantasy still has a long way to go to recover its $170 million budget. Variety reports that Fox is hoping the movie will make back its investment in China and Japan, neither of which it has yet debuted in. In the end, Alita is expected to bring in $80 million + domestically.

MATT SMITH TO PLAY ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE: Matt Smith has set his new role after The Crown. Page Six reports taht he will play Robert Mapplethorpe, the famed 1970s photographer, who rose to fame shooting subjects, often with erotic themes.

TAKASHI MURAKAMI TO SHOW 30 NEW WORKS AT OSCAR SHOW: Takashi Murakami will be the focus of Gagosian Gallery‘s annual Oscar show. The exhibit of all new works opens February 21^st and will run through April 13^th. “This is our Oscar show, which is our biggest show of the year,” Deborah McLeod, director of the gallery in Beverly Hills tells The Hollywood Reporter, adding that the opening event usually sees more than 1,200 guests. “It’s really a fixture on the calendar, and it’s really glamorous.” The title of the exhibit is Gyatei2, a reference to the Buddhist mantra, “gyatei, gyatei, haragyatei, harasogyatei” which appears at the end of the Heart Sutra. “It translates as ‘Gone gone gone beyond, gone completely beyond enlightenment, aha!’” explains McLeod, “It means ‘Go attain enlightenment,’ which I think Takashi is doing.”
