
Centennials Martin named BCHL coach of the year
KAMLOOPS — Joe Martin from the Merritt Centennials has won the Joe Tennant Memorial Trophy as coach of the year in the B.C. Hockey League.
Martin took a team that went 24-27-5 2-17-18 to one that went 36-15-4-3 this season, finishing in second place, one point behind Penticton in the Interior Division.
The Centennials wins of 36 and win percentage of .681 are the highest in 30 years, and the Cents goals for of 220 is the highest in 13 seasons.
Joe Martin joins Luke Pierce (2013), Al Glendening (2006), Brian Barrett (1993), Eddy Beers (1989), and the coach the trophy is named after Joe Tenant (1978) in winning coach of the year.
