Former CFL head coach Marc Trestman joins XFL’s Tampa Bay franchise
TAMPA, Fla. — Former CFL head coach Marc Trestman has joined the upstart XFL.
The league announced Tuesday Trestman has been named the head coach/GM of the new franchise in Tampa Bay.
“Marc is a two-time coach of the year who also led his teams to three CFL Grey Cup championships,” XFL commissioner Oliver Luck said in the statement. “He’s just the kind of offensive-minded coach whose style will fit the up-tempo, fast-paced game we will deliver to fans when the XFL launches next February.”
Trestman, 63, spent the previous two years as the Toronto Argonauts head coach. He led the franchise to a Grey Cup title in 2017 but was fired after last season when the club finished last in the East Division with a 4-14 record.
