UPDATE: Kamloops RCMP say Tournament Inn fire was suspicious

KAMLOOPS — Police have confirmed a fire at the Tournament Inn in Valleyview last night was likely caused by a person.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says officers responded to the motel at 8:45 p.m. on March 6 for a fire that appeared to have started outside the building on the northeast end of the hotel.

Shelkie says exhibits were seized at what appears to be the origin point of the fire, and the exhibits have been sent for analysis.

No one was hurt in the fire, but Shelkie says three units in the hotel were damaged.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at the Tournament Inn last night, or if they have any information on the fire to contact them at (250) 828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Daryl Cooper said earlier this morning that the unit where the fire started was unoccupied, but there were two guests in the second unit. Both escaped unharmed.
