Semi trailer burns on West Trans Canada highway

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue crews had to deal with a bit of a challenging semi fire this morning on the West Trans Canada Highway.

A semi carrying plastic pellets for use in making plastics was reported on fire just west of the Pacific Way turnoff around 4:00 AM.

Platoon Captain Dave Ferguson says the fire broke out in the trailer for some unknown reason.  He says crews were able to get a handle on it relatively quickly, but the contents provided crews with some challenges.

The trailer unit was totally destroyed, no indication at this point whether the cab received much damage.

The sanding crews have covered the roadway, but because of the amount of water used to put out the fire, make sure you drive carefully in that area for the next while.
