Two more Kamloops robberies Thursday, one suspect arrested

KAMLOOPS — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in the most recent robbery at the 7-Eleven store on Summit Drive.

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday (March 7), police were called to the store. The suspect had just entered the store and brandished a knife, demanding money from the cash register. He then left the store and no one was injured.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says through investigation, the suspect was identified within a few hours. He was then found at a nearby home and arrested without incident.

This was the third robbery at this store in the last three months, and the second this week.

“At this time, there is no evidence linking this suspect to the previous two robberies at this store or to the robberies that have occurred in downtown Kamloops in recent months,” Shelkie says.

Shortly after that robbery, at 8:15 p.m., officers responded to the Dr. Love and Hemp City store on Victoria Street.

A man entered the store, had his face covered, and demanded money from the cash register, Shelkie says. No weapon was shown and no one was injured.

The suspect is described as:

  • 5’10” to 6′ tall
  • Slender build
  • Wearing a long, navy blue parka with a fur-lined hood, a black toque with a white stripe along the rim, and dark pants

Although this robbery happened within a few hours of the 7-Eleven robbery, it’s not believed to have been the same suspect.

“At this time there is no evidence linking this suspect to any of the other robberies that have occurred over the past month,” Shelkie says. “As there has been a number of robberies in the downtown core in recent months, Kamloops RCMP advises store owners/managers to review security protocol with their employees and asks everyone to report any suspicious activity they see.”
