Updated: Barricade incident resolved with one man in Kamloops RCMP custody

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: The situation involving a barricaded man on the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc reserve this afternoon has been resolved.

Around 1:05 p.m this afternoon, Kamloops RCMP negotiators and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team were able to successfuly remove the man from his home along Dakota Road unharmed.

He has since been taken to a medical facility to be checked over.

While the public was asked to avoid the area as the incident unfolded, traffic has since been re-opened.

Kamloops RCMP add, they want to thank residents in the area and any other people who may have been affected by this police presence for their patience and understanding.

Staff Sgt. Mat Van Laer says public and officer safety is their main priority, and they’re thankful for a positive resolution of the situation.

Kamloops Mounties are on scene along Dakota Road this afternoon, responding to a distressed man who has barricaded himself in his home.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Mat Van Laer says since 7:45 am, Kamloops RCMP have been responding to a barricaded man who has threatened to harm himself.

“A perimeter has been established around his home in the Kamloops rural area on Dakota Road,” He explains, “We have RCMP negotiators that have made contact with the male, and the situation is ongoing.”

Van Laer says right now neighbours are asked to shelter in place for safety.

“The Southeast District Emergency Response team is attending and further information will follow when we have that available.” says Van Laer.

For the time being, RCMP ask that the public avoid the area.
