BACKSTREET BOYS, ELLA MAI & MARSHMELLO TO PERFORM AT IHEARTRADIO MUSIC: The Backstreet Boys, Ella Mai and Marshmello are hitting the stage at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards. lovelytheband and Lauv, who will be joining Marshmello as a special guest, will also be taking the stage. Travis Barker and Yungblud will join Halsey as special guest performers. Presenters will include Bebe Rexha, Elle Fanning, Jamie and Corinne Foxx, Katy Perry, Maren Morris, Nicole Scherzinger, Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke, Shay Mitchell, Steven Tyler and Zedd. The show, hosted by T-Pain, will air March 14th on FOX.

AVRIL LAVIGNE & LUIS FONSI TO SING RYAN TEDDER-PENNED ANTHEM FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD GAMES: Avril Lavigne and Luis Fonsiare among the singers tapped to perform the official anthem for the Special Olympics World Games 2109, which get underway March 14th in Abu Dhabi. The song, “Right Where I’m Supposed to Be,” was co-written by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and songwriter and producer Greg Wells. During the March 14th opening ceremony, Avril and Fonsi will be joined by several Arab stars to perform the song. More than 7,500 athletes from 190 countries will compete in the Special Olympics World Games, featuring 24 Olympic-style sports. Avril’s song “Fly” was previously the official anthem for the 2015 World Games.

ELLIE GOULDING PERFORMS ‘CLOSE TO ME’ ON ‘LATE SHOW’: Ellie Goulding made an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday night where she put a beautiful acoustic spin on her hit single, “Close To Me.” This was her first appearance on the show. “Close To Me” was originally released in October of 2018 alongside Diplo and Swae Lee. The song has since become a Billboard Hot 100 Top 30 hit.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE TO RECEIVE HONORARY DOCTORATE FROM BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC: Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music will present Justin Timberlake with an honorary Doctor Music degree at its commencement ceremony, scheduled for May 11th at Agganis Arena at Boston University. Justin is being recognized for his “achievement and influence in music,” and for his “enduring global impact.” Also receiving degrees will be rapper Missy Elliott and Berklee grad Alex Lacamoire, a musician, arranger and conductor who has worked on Broadway shows like Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and In the Heights, winning multiple Tony and Grammy Awards. The night before commencement, students will pay tribute to Justin and the other honorees by performing their music at a special concert not open to the public.

ED SHEERAN HEADED TO COURT OVER COPYRIGHT SUIT: Ed Sheeran will in a courtroom this September as he battles a copyright lawsuit claiming his hit “Thinking Out Loud” rips off late Motown legend Marvin Gaye’s classic “Let’s Get It On.” Ed has a trial date scheduled on September 11th in New York City. The heirs of Edward B. Townsend, who own the copyright to “Let’s Get It On,” have accused Ed of copyright infringement, claiming that “Thinking Out Loud” is too similar to Gaye’s song. Last month, a judge decided that because there are substantial “material facts” in dispute – facts that must be determined by a jury trial – he refused Ed’s motion to dismiss the suit.
