KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are investigating a pair of Sunday morning fires in North Kamloops as suspicious.
According to Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, the first was reported at about 2:10 a.m. Sunday (Mar. 24) at a home in the 800-block Evergreen Place in Brocklehurst.
The fire had been ignited outside of the home and had spread to some nearby cedar trees before causing damage to the home itself.
About ten minutes later, RCMP and Kamloops Fire Rescue crews were called to a home in the 600-block of York Avenue on the North Shore for another fire.
In this case, flames also caused damage to the outside of the home.
Shelkie says because of the tight time frame and because of the way the fires began — outside of residential homes — they may be the work of an arsonist.
“We believe it’s suspicious, and we’re just investigating to see if it is arson and if they are related to each other,” said Shelkie.
In both cases, the fires caused minimal exterior damage and no one was injured.
“We’re hoping that somebody may have some information about how the fire started,” said Shelkie. “Or perhaps early Sunday morning they were awake and they somebody outside of one of these residences, either on Evergreen Place or York Avenue, and they could give us a call and give us a description of who may have been out there.”
