COLIN FIRTH, BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH JOIN 1917: Sam Mendes‘ WWI movie 1917 has snagged Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth and Mark Strong, along with The Bodyguard star Richard Madden for its cast. They join George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman, who will play young British soldiers on a single day at the height of World War I. Mendes is directing and co-wrote with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. The film will begin shooting on location in England and Scotland next week, and will bow domestically on Christmas Day this year.
KILLING EVE GETS BAFTA LOVE: The BBC‘s Killing Eve is leading the pack of BAFTA nominations, with Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh competing in the Best Actress category. A Very English scandal got the second-most noms, 12, with Hugh Grant earning his first TV nod. The British awards honoring the best in TV take place May 12thand will be broadcast on the BBC.
GOT DOCUMENTARY IN THE WORKS: HBO has announced a new feature-length documentary called Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, set to air May 26th, a week after the series finale. Jeanie Finlay will helm the two-hour behind-the-scenes look at the making of the final season. The final season bows April 14th.
CINEMARK AND IMAX EXTEND AGREEMENT: IMAX and Cinemark have extended their contract through 2026. Under the terms of the agreement, Cinemark will add IMAX’s laser experience and immersive sound system in Daly City, CA, and upgrade other facilities around the country. “Throughout our 20-year partnership, Cinemark and IMAX have shared some of the world’s biggest movies and created a platform for the best technical and visual advancements in the industry,” said Mark Zoradi, CEO, Cinemark. “With the reaffirmation of our commitment with IMAX, we will continue to provide audiences with the most impactful moviegoing experience.”
