KAMLOOPS — It appears the Kamloops-Thompson School District may finally be set for a capital funding infusion.

The B.C. Ministry of Education has confirmed Minister Rob Fleming will be in Kamloops this Friday for an announcement.

While the ministry wouldn’t divulge any further details, a local funding lobby group — Advocates for SD73 — says the announcement will take place at Valleyview Secondary School.

Valleyview Secondary is well over capacity, and the district has erected a number of portables on site in an effort to alleviate overcrowding.

An expansion to the school has been identified as the district’s top capital funding priority.

Last April, the education ministry asked District 73 to submit a detailed project plan for the expansion.

Submitting the $22 million project plan was touted as a crucial first step to getting the expansion underway.
