KAMLOOPS — Ken Christian has been elected mayor of Kamloops.
The former city councillor cruised to victory picking up 64 per cent of the votes. Bill McQuarrie finished a distant second collecting 18 per cent of the vote.
Stu Holland, a vocal proponent of the KGHM Ajax Mine, finished in third collecting 5.55 per cent.
Todd Mcleod finished fourth, 33 votes behind Holland. Mike McKenzie collected roughly 4 per cent of the vote to finish fifth while Glenn Hilke finished last picking up around 3 per cent.
The by-election became necessary after the resignations of Mayor Peter Milobar (elected as MLA), Councillor Marg Spina (health) and Councillor Ken Christian (running for mayor).
Kathy Sinclair and Ray Dhaliwal picked up the two available council seats.
Voter turnout for the by-election was just 21 per cent.
