Dozens of drivers caught up in distracted driving blitz

KAMLOOPS — The dangers of distracted driving still aren’t getting through to all drivers.

The Kamloops RCMP have released the results of a two-and-a-half day traffic blitz focused on distracted driving and 74 drivers were ticketed for using their electronic devices.

Police check stops were conducted at five different locations on March 16, 17, and 22 with the following tickets being issued:

  • Using electronic devices – 74
  • Failure to wear a seat belt – 49
  • No insurance – 4
  • No driver’s licence – 3
  • Fail to stop for police – 1
  • Prohibited driver – 1 (who had three charges)
  • Vehicle inspection notices – 11
  • Numerous other violation tickets were issued as well

Commenting on the high number of distracted driving infractions, Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said “fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions due to distracted driving are completely preventable.”
