Threats made against students at Prince George high school

The youth has been released but under strict conditions including no access to any devices or the internet.

He’s scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Earlier: Prince George RCMP are investigating a series of death threats against students attending DP Todd Secondary School.

The threats were made on an Instagram account Wednesday night and included images of guns. The account was named DP-Todd-is-next and promised to act on the threat Tuesday when school resumes following the Spring Break.

RCMP have begun investigating, assigning members of its Serious Crime Unit to the case. While police are treating the situation seriously, Mounties say they’ve found some evidence which calls into question the credibility of the threat.

School District 57 says it is working closely with the RCMP to protect the safety of students. Superintendent Marilyn Marquis Forester says the district “will respect the recommendations of our RCMP and will follow established safety protocols as necessary.”

Schools across District 57 remain closed today for the final day of the Spring Break Holiday.

It’s not clear how long the social media account remained live before it was deleted however it’s believed the account was live for at least one hour.

RCMP are asking parents to remind their children of the responsibilities that come with social media activity and to report suspicious activity. They say any threats made will be and must be taken seriously. They’ve released a series of tips for parents which include checking social media accounts and contact lists to see who your child is chatting with, creating an environment where your child feels safe and can talk about secrets. They say parents should always be watching for changes in their child’s behaviour.
