KAMLOOPS — A scary morning for a family in Brocklehurst where a fire in an upstairs bedroom forced them to flee their home.

According to fire officials, a basket of clothes caught fire in the bedroom at around 10:30 in the 2500 block of Fleetwood Avenue.

“We had a call of a fire in the upstairs of this home, so we responded. Upon arrival, we had smoke showing from the upstairs window. We sent a crew inside and we did find some clothing on fire within that bedroom,” said Kamloops Fire Rescue captain Wade Lindoff. “Crews are up there working with a little bit of overhaul and seeing what the extent of that fire was.”

Crews were able to contain the flames to the upstairs bedroom. Fire investigators will be on scene most of the day to determine the exact cause of the fire.
